The Little Trout Stream that Could: Stories from the Two-year Study of Rice Creek

By Paul T. Jackson, Ph.D., Associate Professor, St. Olaf College

Cascade Meadow Wetlands and Environmental Science Center, 2900--19th St. NW
Rice Creek is the only designated brook trout stream in Rice County. Over the last two years a Clean Water Partnership award from the MPCA allowed Bridgewater Township to collaborate with the Cannon River Watershed Partnership and St. Olaf College on a watershed wide assessment. This presentation will focus on a few stories derived from our work, including nutrients (nitrates), brook trout habitat, the trout population and potential for stream rehabilitation.
