A “Watershed Approach” to Restoring and Protecting the Zumbro

Thursday, Dec. 11, 6:30 p.m.

Justin Watkins, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency

In the past, agencies like the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) looked at and tried to address individual pollutant problems in our rivers and lakes. But now, with an estimated 86% of river pollution coming from widespread land use (nonpoint source) pollution sources like erosion, and runoff, agencies are looking at a “watershed approach” to resolving these widespread pollution problems. Justin Watkins of the Rochester MPCA office will provide an overview of the process and discuss its application in the Zumbro Watershed.
